Wow, dusty...
Hello deviantart! its been a while since I've posted anything, much less a journal. A lot of my university stuff has been non art related recently, and what stuff i have done i never finished to a degree that i wanted to post it.
But anyway, I've joined the world of tumblr. it is a strange world, like Facebook but with more pictures and less advertising. i'm using mine specifically to post more work in progress artwork as i do it, to keep my skills from shriveling up.
you can find it here
goldie199.tumblr.com/
have a poke around. i'm just getting started, and I plan to try and post stuff daily to keep up.

This journal is largely for my dad so that he can get the link to my YouTube video, but I'll do some splurging before I get to that, about the video itself.
For one of my units, ICT 108, our final project was a 3d animation. The only main limits were that it had to have music, a message, and more than 15 seconds long. Ever since the early lectures I had some pretty good ideas that I could do. Firstly was to recreate the opening sequence to star trek the next generation, instead using some of my star ships that I've made. Those would have included the USS Einstein, Einstein-class, and the USS Seaton, Ulysses-class. Not sure if I've posted either of them here yet. The Ulysses MSD should be in my scraps, and I'll post a link to an animation of the Einstein.
Anyway, the idea I eventually settles on was a GLADOS style robot alone in an underground facility, with a film noir style to it. i had originally a rather complex story. The robot runs along the rails on the roof of the corridors in the facility you see, so its sort of trapped. in the story, this would be relevant. The facility used to be a base of some kind, filled with people. The robot was left behind in the evacuation however, and had remained there for many years, wandering alone in the dark. The movie would start with the robot reminiscing about the evacuation, or at least what it understood of it. It would have looked into separate rooms and have flashbacks to the time of the evacuation. In the end, I planned for multiple endings, but I wont spoil them in case I get around to making it.
Anyway, I minimised the project massively, reducing it to only a few assets: the robot, a wooden crate, a truck, and the corridor itself. The robot is a worker there, storing crates the truck delivers. It has been doing this for as long as it can remember, and is alone in the dark, quietly going about his job. That's what I settled on for the film. I titled it Endurance, which is also the name of the robot. If I make the original story, then I'll be calling it Nostalgia.
So that's the prattle. I haven't submitted the film to deviantart because a) I haven't been bothered yet to go through the film submission process and b) I've got exams at the moment so I should be studying. But if you want to comment about the video elsewhere than YouTube, whose flaming comment wars have become the stuff of legend, just comment on this journal. Enjoy!

Digimon

5 min read
those who know me may have heard of my 'obsession' for this franchise. I havent updated my journal in ages, so i figured i might as well elaborate on this, and hopefully find some others who share this obsession.

When digimon originally came out, i must have been in about year 4. there were many crazes that swept the school. Marbles, bey blades, and even yo-yo's. Digimon was one of them. the TV series was a favorite of mine, and still is. the idea of having your own digital monster as your best friend, and digivolving and adventuring in the digital world was simply magical, and I guess my love of it has only grown.
At school most kids got one of the tamagochi style digimon pets (V-pets I later found otu they were called). it was so much fun to look after these little guys, hide them when they went off in class, and battle them in the playground at recess and lunch.
I remember that one time, i had only what i thought was a Gabumon. stupidly, I challenged an other kid to a battle, and my opponent was a Scullgreymon. after the battle, I checked the V-pet, and gabumon was stone cold dead from the fight. a gross tactical error on my part ;)
as all crazes did, it became harder and harder to find opponents. i grew tired of the game like everyone else, but every few months, i would still reactivate my digimon and play with them, try to keep them alive as long as possible. I ended up acquiring three V-pets, so i could battle them amongst each other to let them digivolve.

in terms of the TV shows, like sci-fi shows, i find it hard to completly hate any of them. Season 1 was the original, and had Wargreymon, one of the msot awesome things to come out of japan. the original story of Tai and the group was great. the continuation of it in the second series was not as good, it still fun with the different flavors of digivolution.
season 3 was probably my favorite, because it was just what i always dreamed of at that time, making ym own digimon partner. season 4 was allot different from the others, but was the only one i watched froms tart to finish on its original run, so i got more fo the story than the others.
I haven't seen season 5 yet, and i'm not looking forward to it. having watched both the dub and Japanese versions of the digimon movies, i infinitely prefer Digimon: the movie to the original three Japanese movies, but i hear that the dub for season 5 did the opposite of what i would have wanted. a more mature digimon series sounds just like what i would have wanted, but a dub which tries to bring it back down doesn't sound nice. it is one of the main arguments i have for learning Japanese.
season 6 sounds quite frankly like its lost the plot, with a sort of weird power rangers megazord thing. but like i said, after i watch it i might have a hard time hating it, so we'll see

but fast forwarding to the present, I've now got this amazing tool at my disposal, the internet. that along with the independence of my city's public transport system, ebay, and money (almost a distant memory at this unemployed moment :( ) i was able to find and buy all sorts of geeky items. naturally, after finding transformer toys, cool T-shirts, outdated computer games, comics and all manner of stuffed toys related to obscure interests I've found, I thought "surely digimon would be amongst them".
but to this day, the only piece of digimon merchandise I've found in a shop, is digimon trading cards at a little out of the way card shop in the city. devastated, i seem have taken it upon me to preserve whats left of this franchise in Australia.

i guess the reason why i love it so much was the sense of community that was there. all this extra content that was added after i left the franchise sounds incredible, like the battle terminals in japanese arcades that can interface with digimon v-pets. it sounds like the ultimate game, where you can plug in your pet to a terminal at an arcade, battle with others as you see them, or supplement it with a card game.
now that i can get the series off the internet, re-watching them seems like i can almost recapture what i felt as a kid. it almost works, but i feel sad that such a franchise can die out. of course i'm sure it happens all the time with the rate these things come out, but digimon will always hold a very special place in my heart.
as soon and i'm reemployed, ebay will be practicaly drained of digimon merch if i have my way :)
also, if anyone still plays the digimon original card game, i would be very interested in contacting you. I've been slowly assembling a deck through booster packs, but an opponent still eludes me.

supernova was awesome, but i am now so tired my eyes are sore, my lips are dry, there is charcole on my face and i am down one deck of yugioh cards.

yeah, so today i was working at the murdoch booth, basicly getting paid to draw and encourage others to draw. surprisingly i got alot of cool stuff done! if i can get a hold of them again,  will scan in coloured pencil drawings of a refit galaxy class fighting off a klingon pird of prey, and a daedalus-class ship emerging from hyperspace. for things i made in a few hours at a convention, i'm rather proud of them.

which promps my next topic. when i was drawing, a few guys came over and asked if i was selling artwork. i was a bit humbled that my stuff was good enough for money yet. i gave him my deviantart adress, so he'll likely be reading this soon, and if you are, thankyou for your compliments.

the logical continuation of this is the question: If i started doing comissions would anyone consider buying them? talking with some friends, i guess i would start off with $10 works, based mainly around robots, vehicles, scifi, and generaly the things you see in my gallery. Being unemployed at them moment is good encouragment. But i would like to know if i even have a market to sell to.
Because i cant do polls, comment after the journal if you would buy a comission from me.

Aside from that there was much at the convention. I love my phaser rifle, and there were some truly great cosplays this year, dare i say even more than last year. lots of cool things to buy, and plenty of propoganda to nick. I bought two yugioh decks, but today i lost one of them. sifting through my cards trying to build a brand new (mabey even tournoment legal) deck i kept being reminded of cards in the now missing deck that would have been great. these fancy new thingamabobs they call tuners and stuff are a little weird for my 'old' brain to use, and i'll probably stick to older cards. although i do like how you can summon a great number of monsters quickly.

soon i will post the drawings i did at nova, a breif tutorial for the phaser rifle (BTW, its the big blocky one from next generation, not the sleek kind form first contact or the supersoaker-esk kirk phaser rifle)and some other things. cya!

quick entyr cause i gotta go
part 1 of supernova 2010 was awesome. my cosplay was a DS9/VOY security guard with a home made phaser rifle, the instructions for which i will post shortly. saw plenty of cosplay designs i recognised, and even more that i didnt. listened to the summer glau Q&A, played half a match of Yu-Gi-OH that i pretty much lost, bought a new starter deck that was aparently the wrong one with lots of funny new cards.

tomorrow i will be working at the Murdoch booth at supernova, so if anyone is coming then PLEASE come see me and I'll chat with you if i can. some of my art will be on the display monitor rotating around, and i'll tyr and convince you my course is the awesomest one, which it is.
I'll also be buying another yugioh deck and building a new deck out of them ad the cards i already got. it might even be tournament legal! *gasp* no monster rebornes or dark hole!

Also, there was a girl dressed in nice Lolita outfit. we were on the bus and she bought tonnes of legendary pokemon plushes which i will aso try and get. she ahd a DA account and sais she did alot of pokemon fanart. unfourtunatetly that might not narrow it down much on DA, but i feel a tad guilty cause i have somehow misplaced her DA thing and i wanted to give her a lama and check out her page. anway, its a longshop, but if anyone knows her, tell me the page adress.

anyway, this is quick so it is. i will psot pictures of my cosplay up later, i encourage you to come and say hi fi you're coming, if you're not, then come, its awesome, and i got some new yugioh cards.

CYA tomorrow!
